Autumnal Equinox

Acknowledge Your Personal Harvest...

Allow the beauty of Autumn to inspire your creative energy.

And Find Balance.

The Autumnal Equinox. A day when the hours of light and dark are the same. A day where we should take the time to give thanks, contemplate balance and learn. From waiting for the "glowing serpent" to appear outside a Mayan pyramid in Mexico to the Festival of Fire Sculptures in Vilnius, Lithuania, people all over the world are taking the time to celebrate the wonderful energy available today.

I have been working on this post for a while and today the Universe made me practice what I preach. I have spent the day getting well from a flu virus and have not been able to write. My plans have been thwarted and I am just now, with only four hours left to the day, getting to the nuts and bolts of this post. Balance was the theme to my day and the Universe stopped me in my tracks to be sure I focused on it. As a result, this post is what it is and not what I had originally envisioned.

The theme of the Autumnal Equinox is harvest. The fields are bare and sustenance for the winter months has been stored. It is time to give thanks not only for the harvesting of food, but to also contemplate your personal harvest. Acknowledge your achievements. What have you learned? What have you created?

The equal hours of day and night echo the theme of balance. Take some time today and this weekend to really scrutinize your life. Are your personal commitments and commitments outside your home balanced? Are you allowing yourself to receive as well as give?

Once you have sorted through the themes of the day, it is time to prepare for the longer nights of the months ahead. The longer evenings create an atmosphere of solitude conducive to facilitating the focus needed for nurturing any sort of goal or project. Step outside your box. This is the time to pursue something new. Something you thought you could never do.

If this seems like too much, start small. Simply make it a point to schedule some time during your week to connect with the creative energy of these powerful evenings. Also known as the "time of dreaming", it is important to at least take some time to contemplate something new for yourself.

Revel in the energy of the Autumnal Equinox by creating your own rituals to acknowledge the energy of the harvest and find balance. Here are some great rituals if you are having a hard time coming up with your own.

Once again, Kelly Martin saves the day with a fantastic video blog about the Autumnal Equinox.  Like her, I was having a hard time finding decent videos and I'm so happy she developed this one on her own.
