Personal Energy

 How Are You Going To Handle It? 

"Sorry, if I'm broadcasting."  It's a phrase I use at work quite a bit, especially if I'm preoccupied with something outside of work.  I am a substitute teacher and instructional aide in a behavior school, so the people I work with are more in tune with emotions than your typical coworkers.  When I'm especially stressed, I have to think consciously about "what I'm sending out there".  It's part of classroom management.  If the staff is calm, the students will be calmer. As a result, taking responsibility for our own attitudes and emotions is expected.

The cool part about this expectation is that it is basically straight out of metaphysics, but doesn't actually come out and say "your personal energy".  It's been a while, but I've mentioned personal vibration before.  Your vibration not only affects what you attract to yourself, but it can also lift up or pull down the collected vibration of a group,or individuals as well.  Along with this is the act of seeking the energy of others if not feeling complete on your own.

It's also one of my favorite lessons from James Redfield's, Celestine Prophecy. We all have a personal energy, whether you believe Eastern medicine or not, you know how the feeling of a group can change when a certain someone shows up who always brings things down, or a person who always lifts the situation up. It's personal energy and you are responsible for yours and no one else's.  It's a learned process, and this clip from the movie, The Celestine Prophecy, does a nice job of explaining.

One of the biggies I've seen in human, spiritual evolution, is a gradual intolerance for those that can not take responsibility for themselves. I'm not talking about a friend who lost a job, or someone who is having a challenging time. I'm referring to the inability of others to get their emotions and feelings in check on their own. The ability to get yourself together, without having to drain others is a big deal, whether people are consciously aware they are making it a priority or not. In fact, Oprah Winfrey shared in her final episode that their is a sign in her office which states this very thing: "Please take responsibility for the energy you bring into this space.", a quote from Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor.

I've noticed it with my colleagues at work, when there are no students around. Those that insist on gossiping and bringing their outside complications with them into the work place are avoided like the plague. No one is rude to these individuals, we just seek out ways to make our time with them as short as possible.

Marla's Tips For Taking Responsibility For Your Energy

If you're concerned that you may be the person with low energy, or the one who seeks out others to complete their energy, fear not.  I used to be that person and I took responsibility for my own energy before I realized that's what I was actually doing.
  • First and foremost, if you have been emotionally and physically "down" for an especially long time and can't seem to find a way out, do not hesitate to seek help from a doctor or mental health professional. The opinion and guidance from an outside observer can make all the difference in the world.  That being said...
  • Don't hesitate to seek out help from the healing arts of Reiki, Massage Therapy, Acupuncture and so on.  These not only heal the body, but the Chi, or personal energy field as well.  Talk about raising your vibration!  I had a Reiki treatment once and the following week, all of our friends who didn't fit with my and my partner's vision of where we wanted to be, got mad at us and dumped us.
  • If it's a simple situation of being at a career, personal or spiritual crossroads and in need of some outside guidance so you don't burden your friends, seek out a career, life or spiritual coach.  Whether licensed or proficient in personal and life experience, they will be able to guide you out of any rut you may be in. 
  • You knew I was going to say it eventually: Meditation and Affirmations.  By meditating, you will cut out the outside noise that is in the way of allowing you to see why you don't feel complete, or why your energy is low.  Affirmations will help you get your mind in shape in order to think thoughts that will raise your energy.  
  • Don't forget your Body Temple.  Have you been respecting it? Have you been nourishing it with whole, healthy foods?  Have you been strengthening it with physical exercise?  Remember that a strong, well body is the foundation to an uplifted mind and spirit.
