Whirling Rainbow Stick

Many years ago, when I was in the midst of leaving a very dark period of my life behind, I participated in a Whirling Rainbow Ceremony.

A gift from my mother, the ceremony took place the day after I attended and participated in my first drum circle.  That day, I sat in a circle with a group of women and we each put a totem in the circle to represent what we wanted to transform in our lives.  My hands shook uncontrollably as I placed my totems in the circle.  I had been releasing great bundles of emotion since the drum circle and my rawness made the other women very uncomfortable and concerned.

Then, we drummed.

We shared our journeys, prayed for peace, visualized a better world and drummed some more.

When we were finished, we made our very own Whirling Rainbow Sticks.

The woman who led the ceremony said, "We are making these so we have something to look back on. So we can reflect on this day and remember this ceremony."

Today I would like to share what remains of my Whirling Rainbow Stick with you.
